About Eric

Eric Cylvick

Engineer, entrepreneur, and 28-year Tollgate Canyon resident

Eric Cylvick earned his Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from Clarkson University and has lived in the North Summit area for nearly three decades. He and his wife have lived in Tollgate Canyon for 28 years, where they raised their family. Their oldest son is a 2026 North Summit High School graduate, and their youngest is a junior and member of the NSHS Wrestling team.

Eric is an engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience designing and installing large commercial zip lines. He specializes in analyzing terrain, engineering plans, and building ride systems that are safe, efficient, and financially sound.

Eric also served more than 20 years as President of the Pine Meadow Mutual Water Company board, where he led a complete rebuild of the community’s water system. In that role, he ran public board meetings where questions were answered directly, financials were shared openly, and decisions were explained clearly, emphasizing transparency and protecting fixed-income residents.

About Rene

Rene Potter

Chalk Creek native, air traffic controller, and former NS wrestling coach

Rene Potter is a lifelong member of the Chalk Creek community, raised on the family farm his parents and grandparents worked before him. He graduated from North Summit High School, married his wife, and together they raised four children. They are now welcoming their ninth grandson.

Rene’s career spans heavy equipment operation, road work, and more than two decades in air traffic control. He returned home in 2017, grateful to bring his experience back to the valley that shaped him.

For more than a decade, Rene coached North Summit wrestling, helping develop multiple state champions, including his son, the school’s first undefeated wrestler. He also served as Bishop of the Upton Ward, coordinating community efforts during the record 2023 snowpack and flood risk.

Our Commitment

Transparency, Planning, and Community Involvement for North Summit’s Future

01

Put the Community Back in the Center

A school board is elected to represent the community it serves. That means listening to taxpayers, respecting public input, and making major decisions openly.

Eric Cylvick and Rene Potter believe residents deserve transparency, meaningful participation, and a voice that matters—especially when decisions involve millions of taxpayer dollars.

The community’s voice should not be something the board works around. It should be something the board represents.

02

Preserving What Matters

North Summit High School’s location on the hill has long been part of the identity and history of this community.

Before abandoning a site with generations of significance, every reasonable option for preserving and improving the existing campus should be fully explored.

Never cede the high ground. We are the BRAVES.

03

Evaluate Every Option Before Spending

Renovate. Modernize. Expand. Improve in phases. Replace only if the facts support it.

Before pursuing another major capital expenditure, Eric and Rene believe the community deserves to see real options, real costs, and side-by-side comparisons—including costs from comparable recent Utah school projects.

Big decisions require more than one plan, and more than one voice. Your voice matters.

04

Build for the Students We Actually Have

North Summit High School is currently operating below capacity, while enrollment trends are changing across the region.

Facility planning should be based on current enrollment, realistic projections, available capacity, and long-term community needs.

The goal isn’t simply to build more. It’s to plan wisely for what North Summit students will actually need.

05

Invest in Students, Not Just Buildings

Great schools aren’t defined by their walls, they are defined by what happens inside them.

Eric and Rene want to strengthen academic rigor while expanding advanced coursework, technology education, career and technical programs, and skilled-trade pathways.

Our students should graduate prepared for college, careers, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and the opportunities of tomorrow.

Facilities matter. Students come first.
